The dining experience at Uncle Johns Makan Place demonstrates serious operational challenges with extremely poor food quality and hygiene issues that create deeply disappointing customer experiences despite the restaurant focus on local cuisine and family dining. Customer reviews reveal concerning problems including plain white rice instead of authentic nasi lemak, tough and tasteless beef in noodle soup, frozen chicken with starchy curry, rock-hard fries, and severe taste quality issues that result in customers leaving most food uneaten. Additionally, serious hygiene problems include flies in the kitchen area with free access to food preparation areas, moldy trays, and mushy rice that appears to be old, creating food safety concerns that significantly impact customer satisfaction and confidence.
Strategically positioned in the basement level of Changi City Point with convenient accessibility for customers seeking local Singaporean cuisine during their regular activities, Uncle Johns Makan Place benefits from consistent foot traffic and location that creates opportunities for customers seeking familiar comfort food options during shopping trips, work breaks, or family dining occasions. The restaurant operating hours accommodate various dining schedules, making it suitable for lunch, dinner, and evening meals when customers seek traditional Singaporean flavors in a convenient location. With its combination of local cuisine focus and serious operational challenges including food safety and quality issues, Uncle Johns Makan Place requires immediate comprehensive improvements in food preparation, hygiene standards, and service quality to meet basic customer expectations.
Fairly clean tables and friendly staff after hours, but that's the best I can say for a double order of Chicken Chop to go... Chicken: salty. Mushroom soup: salty. Fries: despite a 45 min car ride, it was the extreme opposite of the expected (but then blameless) state of soggy - the fries were so hard I could use it to squash a bug and the fry didn't flatten.

The reviews are real. Communication of ordering so challenging. Cleanliness and hygiene lacking. Mouldy trays. Portion questionable. Taste is off. Rice is mushy like it was cooked last week

The worst chicken rice i ever tasted for $8.50. Extra rice was $2. Unacceptable price and poor food quality.

Please avoid at all cost unless you really have no other choice.
Service: very slow , take their own sweet time to prepare. Waited 30 mins for a bowl of ban Mian?!
Taste: very subpar, even my house Koufu is better.
Price: too pricey, I can eat 2 chicken rice at my house Koufu for just one here.
A place you can get full without eating because you’ll just be full from all the annoyance.

I order Yeemee taste ok 👌
But the Iced Coffee I order was so much different from picture . I so happy when i see that coffee was so nice , but this is first time and last time .
Don’t anyhow put Ipoh Coffee .
I from KL, and my husband from Ipoh .
Everyday I will drink Ipoh Coffee when I go back to Ipoh like a Coffee pic like that .
The girl at cashier is not friendly too .
My tray is already standby on the top so she will put my food on the tray .But she don’t, she just put a so hot mee beside the tray and take my self .
Then two old people was order , she have no patient to serve the old couple.

Speaking only for the yong tau fu shop- zero stars if possible because zero is the theme of this place. 0 salt, 0 taste, 0 flavour.
The tomyum soup was diluted but also sour to the point where it was almost hard to tolerate, it was only better after I asked for some sugar to balance it out. The normal soup was tasteless, as was the fishball and majority of the items. The Ampang gravy was also diluted and tasteless.
The staff are very friendly and efficient but for the price there’s much tastier options around. Not sure why it’s always so busy, but likely for the lack of options now with the whole of ccp under renovation. Hard pass.

Portions are big for the food ordered. Beef noodle soup is the worst I have ever eaten. No beef taste, beef is tough and doesn’t look like beef color. The chicken rice set is good. The curry chicken is edible just not lemak enough & tastes too starchy and sweet. They uses frozen chicken and the portion is big. The chicken chop set portion is good and comes with soup. The French fries are good and freshly made unlike others where they are fried again til it’s hard and soaked in oil.

I ordered fish and chips, nasi lemak, and rojak. The rice in the nasi lemak was plain white rice. I felt so cheated. The rojak was cut in huge chunks and the gravy did not seep into the fruits and vegetables. I paid $34 but only fish and chips were edible. Left 3 quarters of the rojak and half of the nasi lemak as taste was horrible. The pictures show uneaten, unpalatable food

Very slow service.
Food ordered was cold and tasteless
Fries obviously left out long
Coffee on the menu looks so good. But when served it's like cheap coffee

Chicken chop is okay, comes with mushroom soup. Seafood spaghetti aglio olio is very greasy. Cost around 10.50$++ each dish.
For this price point i would suggest you to eat Saizeriya which is just across this store.

Visited 28 Sep at about 11.20am.
The place is kitchen and order counter is full of flies
You can see the flies having free access to the chickens.
Decided to cancel my order and staff was willing to refund, kudos to them for allowing it.
Didn’t finish my order and left.
As per staff, it seems to be a building management issue rather than stall owner problem.

Flavorful and tender hainanese chicken rice; the servings are average but still filling. Reasonable price

Ordered chicken chop and carbona pasta with mushroom. The chicken chop was nice and the salad was enjoyable. The fries are also nice. The carbonara sauce is very dry and does not taste very good. Eating it with the pasta feels like eating rubber. Do not buy the pasta. You just need to pay at the kiosk and wait for your food. If you are ordering Yong tau foo or chicken rice, you can to pay at the counter.

Food experience of cuz you don’t expect hotel feel . But service from Anny is excellent . Take care of customer and also very patience in servicing senior customer . I withness how she take care of her colleague by telling them to have lunch and she work alone . Desert is the best please try . Flies indeed have but is shopping mall issue .
