Gin Khao at Changi City Point brings authentic Thai cuisine to customers seeking traditional flavors and quality dining experiences in a restaurant setting that operates Monday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM, Tuesday to Thursday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM, Friday to Saturday and Monday from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM with both dine-in and takeaway services. This Thai restaurant specializes in traditional dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of Thailand through carefully prepared recipes that emphasize authentic ingredients, proper cooking techniques, and balanced flavor profiles that reflect the diversity and complexity of Thai cuisine.
The dining experience at Gin Khao demonstrates significant inconsistency in both food quality and service standards, with customer reviews revealing a stark division between excellent experiences and deeply disappointing ones that suggest major operational challenges affecting customer satisfaction. Positive reviews highlight exceptional service from staff members like Demi and Christine who provide attentive, patient service with excellent food recommendations including popular dishes like Olive Fried Rice, Green Curry with Rice, Pepper and Garlic Chicken, Tom Yum Sweet Chicken, and authentic Mango Sticky Rice. However, numerous negative reviews report concerning issues including tasteless food, inauthentic flavors, tiny portions, poor hygiene with flies during meals, unprofessional service attitudes, and significant discrepancies between the restaurant high rating and actual customer experiences.
Strategically positioned within Changi City Point retail environment, Gin Khao benefits from convenient accessibility for shoppers, office workers, and local residents seeking Thai dining experiences during their regular activities, creating potential for steady customer traffic that requires consistent quality and service standards to maintain customer loyalty and positive reputation. The restaurant operating hours accommodate various dining schedules with a break during afternoon hours, making it suitable for lunch crowds, dinner gatherings, and weekend dining when customers have more time for leisurely meals. With its combination of authentic Thai cuisine potential and convenient location, Gin Khao has the foundation to provide excellent dining experiences while needing to address the significant operational challenges affecting food quality consistency and service standards.
We were drawn to this restaurant by its glowing 4.6-star Google rating, but our experience couldn’t have been more different. Frankly, we left feeling misled—and worse, scammed into thinking this was going to be a worthwhile dining experience.
When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty, with only two other tables occupied. Despite this, we had to wave repeatedly to get the attention of the waitress. She eventually came over, but with visible reluctance. That was our first red flag.
As we placed our order, her demeanor remained cold and unwelcoming. She didn’t acknowledge our choices—just jotted them down wordlessly. We politely asked for three saucers of chilli (since we had four diners), but instead of accommodating a simple request, she frowned and asked if we could just share. If we were happy to share, why would we have asked in the first place?
When it came to service, things only got worse. Each time she brought out food or drinks, she slammed the items down on the table without a word. It was jarring and felt completely disrespectful. This wasn’t a busy night—there was no excuse for such rushed, impersonal service.
On top of that, the table hadn’t been properly wiped down—it smelled faintly of fish sauce and had visible residue. Even before our food arrived, we were constantly swatting away flies throughout the meal. That, combined with the poor service, made us question the hygiene and standards of the restaurant.
The final straw was when we went to pay. She didn’t show us the bill or offer a receipt—just told us the total and expected us to tap and go. We had to specifically request to see the breakdown before paying. It felt like they were actively trying to avoid transparency.
As for the food, the Goong Ob Woon Sen was especially disappointing—bland and not at all authentic. For a place that claims to serve Thai cuisine, the flavours were underwhelming.
This restaurant may have a high Google rating, but based on our experience, it’s completely undeserved. I rarely leave negative reviews, but I hope this helps others avoid the same disappointment.

Patron at around 8.30pm, consider closing.
Menu photos & food presentation, color dull -1🌟
But tasted good.
Requested for complementary tom yum soup since already closing, but was given an answer ‘No’ -1🌟
That leaves you 3/5🌟

I never had such a horrible Tom Yang Kung before. The soup is filled with a lot of cabbage and two unpeeled prawns. The prawn cake is nothing like what I ate before. There is no prawn, just breadcrumb.
How come they still exist…

Food was quite bad, tasteless and didn't taste like authentic Thai food.
We tried a few dishes and all were very bland. Their tom yum soup was really strange, it tasted rather sweet with weird flavourings added in. The basil pork phad see ew was a disaster. It was completely different from my expectations as the ones I've had in Thailand were so good. The dish here lacked flavour and just tasted like oil.
Prices are expensive for this kind of quality. The place gets moderately busy during lunch hours on weekdays, so be prepared to wait a fair bit for your food.
Overall, I'm definitely not coming back, nor will I be recommending this place to anyone.

If i were the owner of this place i will first fire that girl with glasses who is taking food from that small window of the kitchen and hire someone who is good in serving with a smile. Also please change the stool if you want people to sit longer and order more food, so difficult to sit with children, hardly can fit my bum. Such a good location for a nice restaurant wasted.

My 2nd time there cuz food was good & generous portions the 1st time (4 months ago).
Disappointed this time!!
We ordered:
-Tom Yam Kung:Not authentic at all, just red coloured soup.
-Grilled Squid:Rubbery, tasteless, undercooked DISGUSTING!!
-Grilled Pork shoulder: good but TINY portion.
-Bbq Chicken Thigh: decent
-Kor mu yang: good but TINY portion.
-Somtam : decent but TINY portion.
Portions shrank a lot. Standard DROPPED! Charged us for 2 rice instead of 1.
Servers look like they don’t wanna be there. Hard to get their attention for anything.
NOT COMING BACK.
Besides there are 3 other Thai restaurants near by with waaaay better food quality!!

We saw this interesting Thai fusion place so decided to try! Ordered more fusion dishes but weren’t really impressed.
Thai coffee w coconut milk - This was quite nice, it was fragrant! Looks odd as the coconut milk didn’t fully dissolve but it’s fine
Stir fried udon (fusion menu) - It’s cooked like a Pad Thai but with udon. It’s okay not too bad but wasn’t impressive. I found the udon noodles didn’t quite absorb the flavors of the sauce well. Amount of ingredients was not bad but overall portion was quite small. Would also have been good if the menu indicated what was in the dish, we didn’t know it had seafood.
Som yum carbonara pasta (fusion menu) - This is an interesting dish, really fusion. Came with fish skin and salted egg in the sauce. Pasta had really good Al dente texture. The sauce was interesting and nice to try but l wouldn’t reorder this again - maybe this combination wasn’t for me (versus other fusion pasta styles like tomyum pasta or thai basil pasta). The portion was small for this!
Basil tofu - It’s a light tofu dish, cooked with Thai basil sauce and with long beans. It wasn’t indicated but there’s mild spice. It’s not bad for tofu dish but there’s flavor was quite mild, not a strong Thai basil flavor.
Marmite cauliflower - We were really excited for this. While it tasted a nice as a fried cauliflower dish, I couldn’t really taste the marmite in this so we were slightly disappointed in that part.
Overall, a Thai fusion joint with average food but pretty decent prices! The fusion dishes (for a place where the signage says Thai fusion) didn’t impress us with the flavors. Taste here is quite mild so it’s suitable if you like lighter flavors, while I prefer stronger heavier tastes.

I had visited many times to Gin kahoo one changi city point mall. I must say, it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with beautiful decor that transported me straight to Thailand.
My all time favorite is spring rolls and olive fried rice
We tried chicken wings and tom yum chicken soup as well. All are very tasty and yummy food.

Had a quick Olive Fried Rice at this bustling outlet during the lunch hour yet the food was served fairly quickly and the wait was reasonable. Service was acceptable, nothing exceptional but efficient enough. The food itself was quite authentic in flavour, well-prepared and satisfying. A reliable spot for Thai fare if you are in the area.

Update 22.10.24
Consistency is the key to success. Came again for the nice food and again I’m satisfied! 2 more photos loaded. Today we tried the satay. So yummy!!!!
The staffs are friendly and always showing a smile. Makes you feel ok to have special request like less ice, egg well done. Food served according to what you would normally have, make it very homely for a person like me. Love the garlic and black pepper chicken rice with my egg well done to perfection. Seafood fried rice are full of fresh seafood, with wok hey❤️. The salted egg chicken is also what every mother would cook the chicken to, very well done❤️❤️❤️ second time dining here in a month. Will continue to come Changi City Point just to have dinner here.

Hands down the best service from Demi & Christine on 26 Aug during dinner service.
We needed help with food recommendation and they were more than helpful and patience with us. They were so attentive towards us and other tables and yet not forgetting to be welcoming to others.
Needless to say, the recommended food was amazing as you can see from our empty plates.
The 2 starters was amazing we had Crispy Pork neck and fish cake was just the best.
Mains and soup were equally delicious.

Gin Khao at Changi City Point is a hidden gem that delivers an authentic and delightful Thai dining experience. From the moment you walk in, the warm ambiance and friendly service set the tone for a satisfying meal. Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and clearly crafted with care.
The Olive Fried Rice was a standout—aromatic and perfectly cooked with just the right balance of salty and savory, complemented by fresh vegetables and bits of tangy olives. The Green Curry with Rice was rich and creamy, boasting a deep, fragrant flavor with a mild heat that didn’t overpower. The tender chicken pieces in the curry soaked up the delicious sauce beautifully.
The Pepper and Garlic Chicken was another hit. It came crispy on the outside and juicy inside, coated with a fragrant mix of garlic and pepper that made it hard to stop eating. The Tom Yum Sweet Chicken offered a refreshing twist—sweet and tangy with that familiar Tom Yum zing, and it paired perfectly with the fluffy rice.
For dessert, the Mango Sticky Rice was as authentic as it gets. The mango was fresh and juicy, and the sticky rice had the perfect texture with just the right hint of coconut sweetness. To wash it all down, the Thai Iced Tea was creamy and fragrant, not overly sweet, and very refreshing.
Overall, Gin Khao impresses not just with the variety of its menu, but also with the consistency and authenticity of its flavors. It’s a great place to enjoy quality Thai cuisine in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re a Thai food lover or just looking for a satisfying meal in Changi City Point, Gin Khao is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!
Second visit on 23rd June 25.
